Assisting Individuals with Dressing

Activities of daily living, or ADLs, are routines that are essential to daily life. The most basic ADLs include walking, eating, bathing, grooming, toileting, and dressing and undressing. This course will focus on dressing and undressing.

Wearing fresh, clean clothing is important not only to health but also to a positive frame of mind. The process of getting out of bed and getting dressed helps signal that it’s time to start the day and prepares the individual for the activities ahead.

There are times when individuals will need the help of others to complete this task. As a direct support professional, or DSP, you need to know how to help others dress so that you are prepared when the need arises.
