Louisiana Dementia Training: NF-4B

The first part of this course explains how Alzheimer’s disease affects the brain. It also describes the differences between normal aging and the different forms of dementia.

The second part of this course will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease and strategies for person-centered care for those with Alzheimer’s disease. 

The third part of this course describes how Alzheimer’s disease affects a person’s communication skills. It also identifies strategies for communicating verbally and non-verbally to help maintain the person’s quality of life.

The fourth part of this course discusses how to effectively communicate with a person with dementia. It also discusses what can trigger challenging behaviors and how to prevent the frustration that can lead to these behaviors. 

The fifth part of this course discusses the precautions and interventions to follow to prevent a resident from eloping. It also discusses the process for how to respond if a resident elopes.
