Subject Matter Expert: Cathy Ciolek, PT, DPT, GCS, FAPTA
Dr. Ciolek is President of Living Well With Dementia, LLC which provides education and consultation to promote well-being and positive expectations for aging adults. She has over 30 years of physical therapy clinical experience working with older adults across the continuum of care including as staff PT, Director of PT, and Director of Rehab. She served as Regional Director for the Pennsylvania Restraint Reduction Initiative (PARRI) and as a faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Delaware. Additionally, Cathy is a Board Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist, a Certified Dementia Practitioner®, and a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer®. She currently serves as President of the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy. Dr. Ciolek became a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association in 2018.
Writer: Tiffany Shubert, PT, PhD
Dr. Shubert has a Master’s in Physical Therapy from UC San Francisco/San Francisco State University and a PhD in Human Movement Science from UNC Chapel Hill. She is a licensed physical therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience. She has taught in pre and post-professional DPT programs and is a funded researcher with 35 peer-reviewed publications. The majority of her research has focused on evidence-based fall risk management and the dissemination and implementation of the Otago Exercise Program.
